How long does it usually take for you to look at the work of art? Statistics shows that we spend only 17 seconds looking at a painting, for example. Do you think it is enough to grasp the idea of the artwork?

It started with food but came to art. The Slow Movement advocates a cultural shift toward slowing down life’s pace. It began with Carlo Petrini’s  protest against the opening of a McDonald’s  restaurant in Piazza di Spagna, Rome in 1986 that sparked the creation of the Slow Food organization (Wikipedia).

tumblr_mkawabQADt1s9aecao1_500On Saturday I participated in International Slow Art Day at Uppsala konstmuseum. The task was to look at each artwork out of 5  for 8 minutes. Yes, you just sit and look at it. I definitely can’t say it was too long. Not a all!
